Social media never sits still, and this month has been no exception. There’s been AI updates, platform experiments and policy changes, but you don’t need to keep track of it all alone. Here, we’ve rounded up the latest social media news so you can stay informed without having to do your own deep dive. Let’s get started.
Meta Acquires AI Chatbot Company Manus
Meta has acquired another AI start-up to support its goal of AI “superintelligence”, with AI chatbot company, Manus, joining the roster. The Singapore-based start-up is known for “general-purpose” AI agents, which are systems that can independently carry out complex, multi-step tasks like research, coding or data analysis, rather than just responding to chat prompts. Meta plans to incorporate Manus’ technology into its own AI offerings, while continuing to operate Manus’ services and subscriptions.
X Tightens Rules on AI-Generated Harmful Content
X is making more moves to crack down on problematic AI content. The platform has updated its policies to restrict AI tools like Grok from generating nude images of real people, aiming to protect users from deepfake-style abuse. They are also reviewing Grok’s code and strengthening its content controls to prevent the generation of highly sexualised or explicit imagery, especially when it involves non-consensual or inappropriate content. These steps are part of X’s effort to manage the risks associated with AI tools on the platform and create safer spaces for users, though many details are still being refined.
Threads Experiments With DM Games
After initially being resistant to adding a messaging option to the app, DMs were rolled out on Threads in July 2025, and group chats were added in October. Now, Meta is testing in-chat games in Threads’ direct messages, with early prototypes including a simple basketball mini-game. The feature is still in internal testing and hasn’t rolled out to the public yet, but if launched, it could give Threads a fun way to keep people spending time and connecting within the app.
OpenAI May Be Looking To Acquire Pinterest
Reports suggest that OpenAI is exploring a possible acquisition of Pinterest, though discussions are still early and nothing has been confirmed. The move would pair Pinterest’s idea-sharing platform with OpenAI’s AI technology, potentially reshaping how users find creative inspiration. It could also help build ChatGPT as a shopping tool and provide it with more ad revenue opportunities.
